Students will be required to attend the campus for 135 hours per term and engage in self-paced distance study of 65 hours per term. A term is typically 10 weeks. The amount of training component is estimated at 80% of the students overall learning (640 hours) and the remaining 20% (160 hours) is attributed to distance learning and assessment. If required, students have the option to further extend their training hours with additional support classes, study groups and resits as published in the timetable. The volume of learning refers to the total amount of time that a student would be expected to dedicate to successful completion of the course. It includes the structured part of the course as defined above, as well as the self-study, research and practicing of skills that a student would do in their own time. This will mean that students are able to modify their yoga classes based on the facilities available to them. In your classes you can expect to take the role of student and instructor, engage in roleplays, create yoga classes and simulate learning activities that you will then put into practice in the workplace. You will learn and develop your knowledge to plan for your students’ care. In addition, you will be required to undertake self-paced learning and submit written assessments. A number of practical and skills based assessments will be undertaken in class. A first aid course is also part of this qualification. You will undertake over half of your timetabled study program in a studio. In this practical you will be learning and practicing the skills you will be able to use in your own workplace. What style of Yoga will I learn?
Students teaching practice will follow the Hatha lineage, however over the duration of the course, students will experience the vastness of yoga styles and training’s.
Can I become accredited as a Yoga instructor?
Yes, our courses are mapped to both Yoga Australia, Yoga Alliance and Yoga International standards. This means all our graduates can register as a teacher upon completion.
For Yoga Australia membership is offered at different levels:
Upon completion of a standard 200 hour teacher training, a student would enter at a provisional level. However at completion of the Certificate IV a student with no prior teaching experience would be considered a level 1 member.
If a student has 5 years prior teaching experience they would then become a level 2 teacher.
This information was correct at time publication. We recommend students contact the respective Associations for the very latest details of their membership that may have been updated since this information was published.
Does the course help me establish myself as a Yoga practitioner?
Not only does the course equip students with the skills and knowledge to excel in the yoga industry, our class subjects also require engagement with outside yoga studios, teachers and workshops.
The college provides a list of free yoga opportunities and community programs which allow students the time to build rapport with other practitioners and establish a strong yoga network by completion of their course.
